The Tricolored Bumble Bee is widespread in the United States. As with most of the Bombus Genes, these bees are a decent size and great for your school insect collection or 4-H Bug Collection. The method of collection is usually a sweep-net or just an insect killing jar.

The Western Harvester Ant is a larger ant at about 6mm which makes it a good dead insect specimen for your school insect collection. The Western Harvester Ant or Pogonomyrmex rugosus is common deserts and arid grasslands of the American West.
